Taking payments with Stripe
Take cards, Apple Pay and Google Pay through Stripe, and switch checkout on.
How it works
Card payments, Apple Pay and Google Pay all go through your own Stripe account. Shoppers pay at checkout, and the order is created once Stripe confirms the payment.
Checkout itself is switched off until your shop is ready to sell. Setting it up needs whoever looks after your server, because the Stripe keys and the checkout switch live on the server, not in the admin.
Set it up
- 1
Get your Stripe keys
In your Stripe dashboard, find your publishable key, your secret key and, once you've added the endpoint in the next step, the webhook signing secret.
- 2
Add the webhook in Stripe
In Stripe, add a webhook endpoint at
https://your-shop-address/api/webhooks/stripe/your-shop-slug, using your shop's slug. Without it, no orders are created. - 3
Add the keys to the server
Whoever looks after your server sets
STRIPE_SECRET_KEY,STRIPE_PUBLISHABLE_KEYandSTRIPE_WEBHOOK_SECRET, then restarts the shop. See the configuration settings. - 4
Check Payment methods
Go to Settings, then Payments. Card should be available. Choose Enable if it isn't on, and Save changes.

Try it in test mode
Use Stripe test keys on a copy of your shop first, and place a few orders. A red Test mode ribbon shows across the admin while test keys are in use.
Apple Pay and Google Pay
Both appear at checkout on phones and browsers that support them, once card payments work. They're on by default: the switch is wallets in Feature flags.
- Google Pay needs nothing else.
- Apple Pay needs your domain registered in your Stripe dashboard, and the domain file Stripe gives you added to the server as
APPLE_PAY_DOMAIN_ASSOCIATION.
