Each page's SEO

Products, categories and blog posts each have their own SEO settings. On a product, it's the SEO tab. On a category or blog post, it's the SEO & sharing section on its page.

Meta title
The headline in search results.
Meta description
The line of text under it.
Canonical URL

Only if another page is the original. Leave blank to point at this page.

Hide from search engines

Keeps the page out of search results and the sitemap.

Don't follow links on this page

Asks search engines not to follow its links.

Leave a field blank to use the default, shown in grey. A blank title uses your title template, and a blank product description uses the product's own description. Search result preview and Social card preview show how it will look.

Choose Save SEO on a category or blog post. On a product, it saves with the product.

Shop-wide settings

Go to SEO in the admin menu. Under Defaults:

  • Title template builds titles you haven't written yourself, from {title}, {store} and {category}.
  • Store description is used on the homepage and blog index.
  • Crawler rules adds lines to your shop's robots.txt.
  • Default sharing image is used when a page shares without an image of its own.

Choose Save settings. Under Pages, set the SEO for the homepage, the shop-all page and the blog index.

Sitemaps

Your sitemap is at /sitemap.xml on your shop's address. It lists your live products, categories, maker pages with enough to show, pages and blog posts, and leaves out anything hidden from search engines. It updates by itself, within an hour. Your robots.txt points search engines to it.

Redirects

When you change a product's, category's or blog post's web address, the old one redirects to the new one automatically.

To add one yourself:

  1. 1

    Open Redirects

    Go to SEO, then Redirects.

    AdminthenSEOthenRedirects
  2. 2

    Add it

Under Add a redirect, enter the old path in From, such as /products/old-name, and the new one in To. Choose Add.

Redirects you add here work for product, category and blog post addresses. The list shows each one's source (Manual or Auto) and how often it's been used.
