Search
How shopper search works, how to help it find things, and what to do if it seems out of date.
How it works
Results appear as shoppers type, from two letters. Search forgives typos, so a slightly wrong spelling still finds the right thing. It looks at product titles, makers and brands, categories, tags, option values such as colours, SKUs and barcodes. An exact SKU or barcode match comes first.
Only live products are searched. Drafts and archived products aren't.
New and changed products show up in search within seconds of saving.
Help it find things
If shoppers use a different word for something you sell, add a synonym.
- 1
Open Search settings
Go to Settings, then Search.
AdminthenSettingsthenSearch - 2
Add a line for each group
In Synonyms, write your word, a colon, then the words shoppers use, such as
hoodie: hoody, hooded sweatshirt. One group per line. - 3
Save
Synonyms work on the next search. Nothing needs rebuilding.
If search seems out of date
- Check the product is active, not a draft.
- Save it again. That sends it to search straight away.
- Still wrong? Ask whoever looks after your server to rebuild the search index with
npm run search:reindex.
If the search service is down, your shop keeps working. Results come from a simpler search for a while, and the shop says so.
