Adding and editing products

Add a product, give it sizes or colours, publish it, and change lots of products at once.

Before you start

Anyone who can edit the catalogue can create drafts. To publish, you need a Manager, Admin or Owner role. Have a few photos ready, and know the price and how many you have.

Add a product

  1. 1

    Open Products

In the admin menu, choose Catalog, then Products. Choose + Create product. It opens a page called New product.

    AdminthenCatalogthenProductsthen+ Create product
Catalog › Products, with + Create product at the top right.
  2. 2

Choose what kind of product it is

Pick Simple product, or Product with variants if it comes in sizes, colours or other options. You can also start from a Product template, if your shop has some.

  3. 3

    Give it a title

Write it the way you'd say it in the shop. It's what shoppers search for, and it makes the product's web address. Add a Description if you have one ready.

  4. 4

    Choose photos

Choose Choose library images. In the picker, choose Upload, or drag photos in. Each photo needs a short description for people who can't see it: type it in Describe this image, then choose Save & use.

  5. 5

Add the price, SKU and stock

Enter the Selling price, a SKU if you use them, and the Initial stock. You can leave the price blank and add it later. Pick a Category now, or choose later.

The New product page. The numbers match the steps.
  6. 6

    Create the draft

Choose Create draft. The product is saved, hidden from shoppers, and opens in the full editor.

Finish it and publish

The editor has a tab for each part of the product:

General

Title, web address, description, maker and brand.

Media
Photos and an optional video.
Variants

Sizes, colours and other options, each with its own price, SKU, weight and barcode.

Pricing

Base price, Compare-at price (shown struck through) and Tax class.

Inventory

Stock, which you change from Catalog › Inventory.

SEO
How it looks in search results.
Organisation
Categories and tags.

Choose Save draft to keep working on it, or Publish to put it in your shop. To publish, it needs a title and at least one variant with a price. To take it out of the shop again, set its Status to Draft.

Sizes, colours and other options

  1. 1

    Add an option

On the Variants tab, choose + Add option. Give it an Option name, such as Colour, and its values separated by commas, such as Red, Blue, Green. Then choose Add option.

  2. 2

    Fill in each variant

Every combination becomes a variant automatically. Fill in each one's SKU, Price, Weight (g) and Barcode in the grid, and untick Enabled for any you don't sell. Then save.

A product can have up to 3 options. Weight matters if you charge for shipping by weight.

Photos

On the Media tab, choose + Add from library to add more. The photo marked Primary is the one shoppers see first. To change it, choose Set primary on another photo. Remove only takes a photo off this product: it stays in Catalog › Media. Photo changes save straight away.

Photos can be JPEG, PNG, WebP or AVIF, up to 10 MB each.

Change lots of products at once

  1. 1

    Select the products

On Catalog › Products, tick the products you want. To pick everything that matches your search and filters, choose Select all on this page, then select all matching products.

  2. 2

    Choose an action

Open Bulk action and choose what to change: Set status, Adjust price, Add to category or Remove from category, Add tags or Remove tags, Set tax class or Set brand.

  3. 3

    Check and apply

Check the preview, then choose Apply. Every product changes together, or none do.

Changed your mind? Choose Undo straight after, or find the change later in Bulk history. Each change can be undone once, by a Manager or above.

Archiving and deleting

  • Archive hides a product from your shop and from the products list. Choose Archived in the status filter to find it again, then Restore.
  • Delete moves a product to Catalog › Product bin. To bring it back, choose Restore as draft there.

If it doesn't show in your shop

  • Check it says active, not draft, in the products list.
  • Check it has stock. Catalog › Inventory shows what's available.
  • Give it a few seconds, then refresh. Search catches up almost straight away.
